Deirdre Kenny
Art Therapist MA
IACAT
Welcome,
I am a qualified Art Therapist (MA, First Class Honours) offering private practice in Carrigaline, Co. Cork, supporting children, adolescents, and adults. My therapeutic approach is intuitive, trauma-informed, and rooted in person-centred care, creating a safe and supportive space for self-expression and healing.
As a fully registered member of the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists (IACAT), I adhere to their professional code of ethics and maintain the highest standards of therapeutic practice.

My Services
Art Therapy provides a safe and creative space for children, adolescents, and adults to explore feelings, build resilience, and support healing. It can help with:
Anxiety, stress, and low mood
Trauma and recovery from difficult experiences
Grief, loss, and life transitions
Eating disorders and disordered eating
Self-esteem, identity, and confidence
Emotional regulation and relationship challenges
Support for neurodiversity (including ADHD and autism)
No artistic skills are required, Art Therapy is about expression, not ability. Each session is guided at your pace, with care and compassion.
Your Appointment
What to Expect from Art Therapy
Before therapy begins, an initial intake meeting will take place to understand your needs and goals. If the person accessing therapy is under 16, a parent or legal guardian must attend this meeting.
After the intake, I will create a therapeutic plan tailored to your unique needs. From there, sessions will be held in-person only (as the interactive nature of art therapy is not suited to online work).
Session Details:
Each session is 50 minutes in duration
Fee: €60 per session this includes the initial intake meeting
24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations; otherwise, the full fee will apply
Sessions are confidential, except in cases where there is risk of harm to self or others, or in the event of a disclosure of abuse (current or historical). In such circumstances, I am legally required to report to Tusla or An Garda Síochána where appropriate.
Any artwork created during therapy will be safely retained by the therapist for the duration of the therapeutic process.
Art Therapy does not require any prior artistic skills, what matters most is your willingness to explore and express yourself in a supportive environment.
How Art Therapy Works
Art Therapy combines the creative process with psychological support to help people express feelings that may be difficult to put into words. Engaging with art materials activates different parts of the brain, supporting emotional regulation, reducing stress, and fostering new perspectives. Research shows that creative expression can calm the nervous system, strengthen resilience, and promote healing.
For me, this is not just theory, I have faced challenges in my own life at different times, and I have always found Art Therapy to be a grounding and transformative way to navigate through them. This personal experience deepens my belief in the power of creativity as a tool for growth and connection.
In our sessions, you don’t need to be “good at art”, the focus is on the process, not the product. Together, we use creativity as a bridge to understanding, healing, and self-discovery.
